Defender® filters produce sparkling, crystal clear water by removing particles down to 1 micron more effectively than sand using a regenerative filter media (RMF) such as Perlite or D.E. RMFs trap particles on the surface of flexible tubes coated with perlite media. When the perlite becomes loaded, RMFs automatically regenerate by bumping, a process in which no water is lost except during periodic media replacement. Saves 90% on water usage by eliminating the need for regular backwashing, and therefore also saving up to 30% on chemical usage.
